When his quality of life declined, Jim made the decision to pursue Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), reflecting the dignity and strength with which he approached every stage of his journey.

In his final moments, Jim was surrounded by his partner, his brother Peter Hughes, his children Chris, Jason, and Loren Fletcher, his grandson Draven Fletcher, and his dear friend Blaine Nafziger from Ironworkers Union Local 720. Their presence brought comfort and peace as Jim said goodbye.
