OMAHA, Neb. — July 2026 — The Omaha community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of brothers Zaiden Strassenburg, 5, and Prestin Strassenburg, 10, who died following a devastating crash near 114th Street and West Center Road. Their deaths have left family, friends, classmates, and neighbors grieving an unimaginable tragedy.

Details of the Crash

According to investigators, the boys were traveling in a vehicle with two adults when it was struck by another vehicle allegedly driven by 28-year-old Tanner Hunt of Elkhorn.

Authorities confirmed that Prestin, 10, died from injuries sustained in the crash on Friday, while Zaiden, 5, later succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. The Omaha Police Department publicly identified the brothers on Thursday.

Investigators allege Hunt was driving under the influence at the time of the collision. Experts concluded that a combination of alcohol and Adderall contributed to the crash. Hunt has been charged with motor vehicle homicide and DUI causing serious bodily injury. He remains in the Douglas County Corrections facility on a $10 million bond.

A second criminal case filed Tuesday added misdemeanor charges of driving with a revoked license, no proof of insurance, and refusal to submit to a blood, breath, or urine test. Prosecutors have indicated they expect to pursue additional or upgraded charges as the investigation continues.
